Sustainable aviation fuel, made from non-petroleum feedstocks, is an alternative fuel that reduces emissions from air transportation. SAF is blended at 10% to 50% with jet fuel to reduce emissions. Aviation accounts for 2% of all human-caused and 12% of all transportation CO2 emissions worldwide. Compared with conventional jet fuel, 100% SAF has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 94% depending on feedstock and technology pathways.
Over 360,000 commercial flights have used SAF at 46 different airports largely concentrated in the United States and Europe.
Avalon Energy's SAF meets the ASTM D7566 quality standards set by the global aviation industry. We produce SAF even greener through vertical integration with sustainable agriculture.
Our SAF is made from 100% non-edible oil seed crops grown on low resource-intensive marginal lands. Our manufacturing facilities are 100% non-polluting with net zero discharge operations. Also, our integrated biorefineries producing multiple products on a single platform minimize waste streams and enhance value-chain. LCA emissions from our integrated seed-to-fuel approach result in the production of the lowest carbon impact SAF
Several major airlines globally have made a commitment to blending SAF into their fuel mix in 2023. United is on track to use 10 million gallons of SAF in 2023, nearly three times more than it used last year. United is committed to flying its fleet on 100% SAF by 2050.
Boeing has doubled its SAF fuel purchase for commercial operations with 5.6 million gallons for 2023. Delta will purchase 10 million gallons of SAF for use at its hub at Los Angeles International Airport. All Airbus aircraft and helicopters are capable of flying with up to a 50% blend of SAF today. Airbus' goal is to enable 100% SAF capability by 2030 for all commercial and military aircraft and helicopters. This trend is global.
